Between June 5th until June 12th 2010, the Shelburne Police Service responded to 72 calls for service.  Below are highlights of calls for service.

Vehicle Attempts to Avoid R.I.D.E. Program – Charges Laid

On June 8th 2010 at approximately 11:30PM, members of the Shelburne Police Service were conducting a R.I.D.E. program in the area of Owen Sound Street and Main Street.  A vehicle approached the R.I.D.E. program and paused.  When the officer motioned the vehicle forward, it quickly ran a red light and fled westbound on Main Street. 

Officers quickly located and stopped the vehicle.  As a result of the traffic stop, officer seized a quantity of marijuana. 

As a result, the 25-year-old passenger, Matthew GAUTHIER of Alliston is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.  The driver, 18-year-old, Samantha HUNTER of Everett is also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and numerous Highway Traffic Act offences.

Both were released and given a court date in Orangeville.
 

Domestic Dispute Results in Charges

On June 10th 2010, Shelburne Police responded to a domestic dispute in progress.  The dispute had been called in and witnessed by an off-duty Ontario Provincial Police officer.

Officer's responded and located the victim in this matter on Jelly Street.  The accused party had fled the scene.

As a result of interviews, a 16-year-old male youth was later arrested.  He was transported to the Shelburne Police office and held for a bail hearing.  The youth, who can not be identified as per the YCJA, is charged with three counts of assault, one count of forcible confinement and three counts of breach of probation.


Traffic Safety Initiative Begins

Shelburne Police has a traffic initiative that targets all traffic-related offences within the Town of Shelburne that begins during the May long weekend.  This initiative is called Road Safety Value Partnership (R.S.V.P.).  During this time officers are assigned to conduct enforcement of specific offences such as speeding, red light runners, stop sign enforcement, Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Impaired Driving and any other traffic offence. 

This program has been very successful in the past with hundreds of charges being laid.

The Shelburne Police is committed to Canada's Road Safety Vision 2010, a plan to make Canada's roads the safest in the world by 2010. 

We are working towards safer roads – getting in the car shouldn't be a life threatening.
