Between January 17th until January 24th
2010,
the Shelburne Police Service responded to 50 calls for service. Below are
highlights of calls for service.
Traffic Complaint Results in Arrest
On
January 21st 2010 at approximately 4:00PM Shelburne Police received
a traffic complaint and quickly located the vehicle on 30th Sideroad and Town line Road. As a result, 46-year-old
Dirk VanDyk of Shelburne was arrested and charged
with fail to abide by conditions of his release. He had recently been
charged and was on conditions not to operate a motor vehicle. He was
released and given a court date in Orangeville.
Officer Struck by
Vehicle – Driver Charged
On
January 23rd 2010 at around 7:50PM, an officer with the Shelburne
Police Service stopped a vehicle on Main Street East. As
the officer spoke with the driver of the vehicle, a pickup truck travelling
east bound struck the officer in the elbow with the passenger side
mirror. Police stopped the pickup truck and discovered the driver was
suspended for medical reasons. As a result, 51-year-old Steven Petsinis of Harriston was charged
with Careless Driving, Drive Under Suspension and Fail
to Remain at the Scene of an Accident. The officer suffered minor injuries
and did not have to be transported to the hospital.
Police want to remind all motorists, that when they see any type of emergency
vehicle on the side of the road with emergency lights activated, they are to
slow down and proceed with caution.
RIDE Program
Results in Drug Seizure
On
January 23rd
2010 at approximately 11:30PM the
Shelburne Police Service were conducting a R.I.D.E.
program on County Road 124. During the course of the R.I.D.E. program
police stopped a vehicle that had drug paraphernalia inside and the fresh odour
of marijuana. As a result, 36-year-old Nick Giavropulos
of Richmond
Hill was arrested and charged with
Possession of a Controlled Substance. A total of 25.7g of marijuana and
7.8g of hashish were seized. He is scheduled to appear in Orangeville
court.
