Crime Prevention Week
This year, Crime prevention Week is
from November 7 to 13 in Ontario. The week is dedicated to
recognizing the efforts of our police officers and to making you
more aware of what each member of the community can do to reduce
crime and enhance community safety.
Shelburne Police
Service plays an essential role in preventing crime in Shelburne.
We're committed to ensuring a strong and positive relationship
between police and our community. You can make a difference in the
community while filling a valuable role.
PROTECT YOURSELF:
Do not leave keys hidden in obvious places outside.
When in public, always be aware of your surroundings.
Consider extra outdoor safety lighting.
PROTECT YOUR
CHILDREN:
Know where they are at all times.
If home alone, do not answer the door, or if on the phone, not to
say they are alone.
PROTECT YOUR HOME
AND VEHICLE:
Keep a "lived-in" look while away using automatic timers for lights
and having lawns cut or snow removed, for extended absences.
Don't put your name or address on your house or vehicle keys.
Check the interior of your vehicle before entering, especially at
night.
GET INVOLVED:
Consider a job in policing.
Write down descriptions of suspicious persons and record the make,
model, colour, and licence number of suspicious vehicles.
You, too, can make a
difference by taking steps to crime-proof your home or businesses.
Vigilance and co-operation are the keys to preventing crimes.
