Shelburne Police News
The Shelburne Police Service has been
kept busy, since the last newsletter. The Service has investigated
three armed robberies and are asking the public for assistance to
solve these serious crimes.
On Sunday March
21st, 2004 at approximately 10:00 p.m. a lone male entered the
Mac's Milk Store. The suspect produced a weapon, and assaulted the
clerk. The male is described at 5'-5-6' tall wearing dark clothing
and light colored shoes. On Tuesday April 13th, 2004
at approximately 10:00 p.m. two males entered the Sunys Gas bar,
producing wooden sticks and demanding cash, the attendant was
assaulted. Both males are white, in their early 20's and 5'8 to 5'11
tall. The last robbery occurred on Saturday May 8th, 2004, at
approximately 11:30 p.m. at New Orleans Pizza. The lone male
indicated he was armed leaving the store with an undisclosed amount
of cash. The male is described as male white, early 20's, wearing a
black coat with white down one sleeve. This male was seen earlier at
the Esso Gas station, near County Road #124.
To date the service
has investigated 802 incidents, and records indicate, a serious
increase over 2003, in that the service has investigated 21 related
domestic incidents and 4 sexual assault incidents. The service is
mandated to answer all 911 calls, and have responded to 53 calls all
proven to be false, by misdialing, kids on the phone and prank
calls, police remind the public to be careful in dialing the phone.
May 9th-15th,
was police week in Ontario, the service entertained around 40
citizens to a B.B.Q. at the station and ran a booth at the spring
fest at Hyland Heights school. Remember tours of the station can be
arranged through the office. May is Sexual Assault Prevention Month,
the police will be increasing public awareness on this serious
crime. Did you Kn?w, that an estimated 572,000 woman in Canada were
sexually assaulted in one year alone. That's more than one per
minute.
Police also want to
remind all motorists, to slow down on residential streets as summer
holidays are fast approaching, and kids will be more prevalent on
bikes. On Friday May 21st, 2004, the Ontario Association of Chiefs
of Police will launch the 2004 DRIVE SAFE campaign, your local
service will be increasing R.I.D.E. & RADAR programs, throughout the
town, to target unsafe/aggressive driving. |
