September 28th, 2004 - October 18th, 2004

On October 14th, 2004 police investigated an assault at the High School. A youth who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act has been charged with Assault Cause Bodily Harm and Cause Disturbance.

On September 18th, 2004 police charged a youth with trafficking narcotics at the local high school. The youth cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

On October 5th, 2004 police charged and held Jeffrey Michael Cournoyea 21 years of Shelburne for a bail hearing. Mr. Cournoyea was investigated and charged with Trafficking Narcotics, possession of narcotics, fail to comply with court orders (2 counts) after a complaint was received at the local high school.

On October 12th, 2004 police charged a youth who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act with Possession of narcotics.

The Shelburne Police have charged Anter Singh 44 years of North York after an investigation in the fraudulent use of a credit card on September 22nd, 2004 at a local gas bar. Singh was charged with 2 counts of Utter a Forged Document and 2 counts of Fraud. Mr. Singh is to appear in court on November 2nd, 2004.

On October 14th, 2004 the RCMP and Shelburne Police executed a search warrant at a residence in the Town of Shelburne and seized 344 marihuana plants as well as equipment used in the indoor grow operation. The marihuana has an estimated street value of $310,000.00. Hydro One and the Shelburne Fire Department attended the scene to assist by cutting power to the residence and ensuring the safety of the investigators and local neighbours.

The number of grow operations which have been dismantled in Ontario has grown exponentially since 2000. In 2000, 422 grow operations were dismantled in Ontario. This number grew to 1,490 in 2002, and increase of 253%.

Police want to remind the public to report any suspicious activity that may lead police to a drug grow house.

  • Boarded up windows, no light showing through at night, curtains/windows remain closed for long periods

  • No furniture moved into the home after occupancy by the new owner/tenant

  • Persons attending the home periodically approximately every 3 days

  • No snow build up on the roof

  • Hot air escaping from roof intake vents

  • Property unkept, grass uncut, snow not removed from walks
