- Never lend your ABM card to anyone.
- Memorize your PIN number. Don't write it
down and don't carry it with you.
- Never disclose your PIN number – No one
from the bank or the police will ever ask for your PIN number.
- Have your card ready when approaching the
ABM.
- Be aware of anyone loitering in the area
of your ABM. If you become suspicious, leave the area immediately
and contact police.
- Use your hand or body to shield others
from seeing any of your confidential information.
- Remember to retrieve your card, cash and
your transaction record before leaving the ABM machine.
- Do not count your cash at the teller –
place it securely in your purse or wallet and count it later,
privately.
- Report any lost or stolen cards
immediately to your bank and police.
- Check your bank statements regularly for
any discrepancies or suspicious transactions. Contact your
financial institution immediately if you suspect unauthorized
debits from your account.
Always cover your hand when
entering your PIN at an ATM, grocery store, gas station, etc.
Don’t throw your transaction
record away at the ATM.
Check the machine for anything
unusual before inserting your card.
ATM
frauds often involve fake card readers at the entrance to the bank
ATM. Check to see if the door is locked before swiping your card at
the entrance’s card reader. Criminals install a fake card reader at
the door and a pinhole camera above the keypad to steal your bank
information.
Check the card slot before entering your card in an ABM machine. If
the slot wiggles or pops out, the reader is fake, possibly installed
over a legitimate reader. A pinhole camera is often used to capture
your PIN information once you’ve entered your card in the device.
