Bicycle Safety
- Wear a helmet for your own safety.
Children should always wear a helmet.
- When riding at night make sure you have a
white light at the front of the bike and a red reflector to the
rear to increase visibility.
- Dress in bright colours to increase
visibility.
- Use hand signals to let drivers know what
you plan to do.
To signal a left turn, extend your left arm straight out.
To signal a right turn, your left arm should be bent up.
To signal a stop, your left arm should be bent down.
- Obey the traffic signs, they apply to all
vehicles on the road.
Crime Prevention
- Register your bike at your local police
station.
If your bike is ever stolen and recovered, it will be returned to
you.
- Always lock up your bicycle when not in
use.
- Lock up your bicycle by placing a chain
or cable through both wheels and the frame then attach it to a
stationary object.
- Keep the serial number and a picture of
your bike in a safe place at home.
- If your bike is stolen, report it to the
police immediately.
